BETTING PREVIEW: England vs Fiji

From a win over old rivals Australia, England will be aiming to make it two from two in their end-of-year schedule when they take on a talented and increasingly consistent Fijian side.

England vs Fiji | Saturday 8 November | Twickenham

This fixture has had a competitive edge in recent years, with Fiji closing the gap on England. The Pacific Islanders claimed a win at Twickenham in August 2023 before going down by just six points to the same English side in the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals a few months later.

Fiji arrive in the north off the back of a solid year, having easily secured another Pacific Nations Cup title. Wins over Samoa, Tonga and Canada might not turn heads, but a narrow triumph over Japan in the final was a credible result.

Earlier in the year, Fiji gave an improving Australian side a scare, losing by only three points, and also recorded a convincing 29-14 win over Scotland.

For England, 2025 has been a largely positive campaign. They finished runners-up in the Six Nations, swept a weakened Argentina 2-0 in the mid-year series, and thrashed the United States 5-40. Arguably their most polished performance came last weekend against Australia. While the Wallabies were far from their best, England’s defence was ruthless, and their attack clinical, with veteran George Ford pulling the strings at fly-half.

Looking ahead to team news, Steve Borthwick is expected to continue experimenting with his hybrid roles. Marcus Smith may return at fullback, Freddie Steward is reportedly carrying a minor niggle, and Ollie Lawrence is in contention to start in the centres.

For Fiji, former All Black Pita Gus Sowakula could make his debut, while powerhouses Josua Tuisova and Vilimoni Botitu are likely to form a dangerous centre pairing.

Verdict: Fiji (+)
With decent weather expected, conditions should favour the Fijians’ fast-paced style. Expect them to keep this one within the handicap.
