Durban City’s unbeaten run in the new Premiership campaign continued on Tuesday evening as they held Polokwane City to a 0-0 stalemate at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The result means Gavin Hunt’s side remain unbeaten after four matches, collecting two wins and two draws, as they adjust quickly to the demands of the new season.

A Game of Missed Opportunities

The visitors came out flying and almost struck inside the opening minute when Samkelo Maseko found himself with a clear sight of goal but failed to convert. Moments later, Joslin Kamatuka tested Polokwane goalkeeper Brian Bwire with a sharp effort on the turn after 11 minutes, before a dangerous cutback from Trevor Mokwena just evaded his teammates.

City were unlucky not to take the lead before halftime when Kamatuka rattled the crossbar from close range, though the referee had already blown for a foul in the build-up.

Polokwane’s Second-Half Response

After the break, the home side carried more of a threat as Sibusiso Tshabalala volleyed over from 10 yards, and Lebohang Nkaki headed off target.

Durban City nearly stole it late on when Athini Jodwana’s clever chip from a tight angle dropped onto the roof of the net with just over 10 minutes left. Despite their energetic push for a winner, Hunt’s men couldn’t find the breakthrough.

What’s Next

Durban City stay in Limpopo for their second fixture of the week, taking on Sekhukhune United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening (kick-off 17:30). With their unbeaten record intact, the Citizens will be aiming to turn resilience into another three points.
