Durban City may be newcomers to the Betway Premiership, but their recent transfer business sends a clear message, they aren’t here to simply make up the numbers.
With just days to go before their top-flight debut against TS Galaxy, the KwaZulu-Natal side has unveiled four fresh signings aimed at strengthening key areas of the pitch.
Leading the new intake is Jean Lwamba, a dynamic forward from the Democratic Republic of Congo, whose exploits in the Botswana top tier last season caught the eye. The striker found the net 15 times during a standout campaign and brings both pace and decisiveness to Durban City’s frontline. His arrival gives the side a more clinical edge in attack, a key factor in a league where chances are at a premium.
The engine room gets a serious injection of pedigree through the acquisition of Thabo Nodada and Haashim Domingo, both arriving from Cape Town City.
Nodada, a seasoned campaigner with over 200 Premiership appearances, adds steel, leadership, and tactical awareness. His presence is likely to bring much-needed stability and experience to a young squad.
Domingo, on the other hand, adds flair and flexibility. With stints at Mamelodi Sundowns, Raja Casablanca, and Bidvest Wits under his belt, the 29-year-old offers creativity and an attacking spark in midfield transitions.
Completing the group is Kyle Jurgens, a 21-year-old right-back who rose through the ranks at Stellenbosch FC. Despite his age, he already boasts over 50 senior appearances and is known for his ability to contribute both defensively and going forward, ideal for the modern game.
These latest arrivals follow earlier signings that turned heads, including former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Darren Keet, Ghanaian shot-stopper Frederik Asare, and bright young prospects like Brooklyn Poggenpoel and Trevor Mokwena.
Durban City’s recruitment strategy speaks of balance, youth paired with experience, local promise blended with international flair. With the Mbombela Stadium clash looming, the club’s supporters will be eager to see how the new-look squad gels under pressure.
