PSL BETTING PREVIEW: SuperSport United vs Orlando Pirates

Relegation-threatened SuperSport United host an in-form Orlando Pirates side on Tuesday evening, with both teams experiencing vastly contrasting fortunes.

It’s been a dismal run for Matsatsantsa, who have won just one of their last nine matches and sit precariously close to the relegation playoff spot — only saved by goal difference. The 3-1 loss to TS Galaxy earlier this month triggered the sacking of Gavin Hunt, and while they’ve steadied somewhat under interim leadership, results remain underwhelming.

They managed a narrow 2-0 win over Chippa United, but that momentum quickly faded after a 2-1 defeat away to Stellenbosch, despite dominating the shot count. The absence of central midfielder Grant Margeman through injury is a major blow, while winger Ghampani Lungu remains doubtful. On a more positive note, Neo Rapoo returns from international duty, and Lebohang Maboe could be recalled into the XI.

The Buccaneers, in contrast, have been red-hot in league action, winning 18 of their last 25 PSL matches. While their pursuit of a cup treble has faltered with exits in both the CAF Champions League and Nedbank Cup, they remain a dangerous and consistent domestic force.

Their last five league games include strong wins over Kaizer Chiefs (2-1), Golden Arrows (2-1 and 3-0), and a dramatic 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy. Despite the late equaliser conceded at the weekend, Pirates have shown attacking verve and resilience.

They will be without suspended winger Relebohile Mofokeng, while defenders Olisa Ndah and Thabiso Sesane are sidelined through injury. Monnapule Saleng and Miguel Timm remain out of favour and are expected to exit at season’s end.

SuperSport are winless in eight of their last nine matches and have conceded two or more goals in each of their last three clashes against Pirates. On the other hand, Pirates have scored at least two goals in three of their last four league matches and boast an impressive overall league record this season.

SuperSport hold a narrow all-time edge, leading 22-21 in wins across 56 meetings, with 13 draws. Their last clash ended in a 2-2 Nedbank Cup draw in March.

Orlando Pirates are simply in better form, more cohesive, and more dangerous going forward. With SuperSport leaking goals and low on confidence, expect the Buccaneers to bag at least two goals en route to a crucial away win.

Prediction: Orlando Pirates to win and score over 1.5 goals
